Facebook Changes All Brands Need To Know

It’s hard to believe that a social media website can hold such an immense amount of power within the technology-world, but Facebook does just that. Facebook has been on the forefront of technological advances for some time now. While they are always tweaking their algorithms and updating their platform, they are also investing in new ideas and companies to add to the experience. 2016 has been a big year for this site, as they have added several new features and continue to work on more. Here are a few of the changes that you and your brand should know about:

Disappearing Messages

As people are living more and more of their lives online, the need for privacy continues to grow. Facebook has taken note of the desire for discretion and has taken a hint from earlier versions of Snapchat. While Snapchat has moved into this territory of giving the option to save favorited material, Facebook has started a new feature in its messenger that enables its users to send and receive messages that disappear after a selected amount of time. While this may not seem like a big deal, this will give users the ability to send truly private messages. This feature is also set up so that only one device can access the message - even if other devices are synced. This gives a more confident privacy to users. While this option is only currently usable within literal text, there has been talk about expanding into gifs, videos, and possibly transactions.

Facebook is listening to their users’ desires and are making appropriate changes as a result.

News Feed

Recently they released a statement saying that they will be changing their algorithm to what will be seen on users’ news feeds. After conducting research, they saw that people wanted to see less promotional items and more of whatever their friends and family were posting. The unfortunate side of this change is that it may have a negative effect on many businesses that have used Facebook as a marketing tool. Merely creating and boosting posts for the sake of marketing may not be enough anymore. In order for companies to increase Facebook presence, it is suggested to try to use customer engagement.

If friends and family members are commenting, liking, and sharing content on your page, more people will be able to see it.

Live Streaming and 3D Video Capabilities

There has been a noticeable shift in the desire for video content on Facebook. As years pass, videos have developed a more dominant presence on the website. This has not gone unnoticed, as Facebook has intentionally added several new viewing routes. Facebook has prioritized video content by adding a live streaming option, much like Periscope. This is a great opportunity to interact with customers or followers because it provides a personal standpoint. With Facebook recently taking over Oculus, a company focused on virtual reality, new options for content is now available, such as 360-panoramas. This gives more options to both businesses and individual users.
